Hon’ble Chief Guest, Principal, Vice Principal, Dear Colleagues and Lovely Students – Warm Greetings to all of you and welcome to the Independence Day function of our school!
It is indeed a matter of great pleasure that we are entering into the 72nd independent year of our country and I am extremely elated to have got this opportunity of speaking my heart out on this great occasion. August 15 is the day we as Indians should feel proud of because it was after long years of struggle and sacrifice of our forefathers that our motherland could finally emerge as a sovereign nation. We should never forget the sacrifices of our forefathers, but value and cherish it because taking our freedom for granted and not having a feeling of patriotism in our hearts would mean that we are causing a great sense of disrespect to the beliefs and ideology of our forefathers.
Our country has always been the land of immense wealth and which was why it earned the title of “Golden Bird”. The Britishers not directly invaded India, but stealthily in the garb of trading with us and with their shrewd strategies began occupying different regions of our country. The policy that they resorted to in order to break the unity of our country was “Divide and Rule”. We all know that our country is a land of great diversity and the Britishers took unfair advantage of it. They divided us on various grounds, such as in the name of religion, region, caste, class and creed. And, we Indians could not make out their deceptive behavior and lost our every priced possession.
It was only when their atrocities became excruciating that some great Indian revolutionaries, such as Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rani Laxmi Bai and many other came to the fore in order to confront the situation boldly and drive away the Britishers from our land. One important thing that they did was to expose the shrewd strategies of the Britishers and what they were actually up to, i.e. to establish their rule on our land. After a lot of struggle they could galvanize the force and come up with troops to put up a fight against them in order to achieve independence. They just lived that glorious dream when our country would be absolutely free and so continued to wage war against them in order to realize that dream. They even happily sacrificed their lives for their motherland.
Throughout the entire period, our country witnessed several hardships. However, after winning back its freedom, there was no looking back. Our country began making a progress in different fields of science, technology, agriculture, infrastructure as well as industrialization. At the same time, there were several terrorist attacks that severely shunted the economy of our country, including political scams which hurt the integrity of our country. But the spirit of our country is still the same and continues to thrive.
So let’s take a pledge to make our country proud with our fine deeds and never lay waste the sacrifice of our forefathers.
Thank you and let’s hear it from everyone Mera Bharat Mahan!
